  1. Dont forget that Canada has also managed to use natural resources to turn areas like Newfoundland and Labrador from have-not to have provinces. I visit Newfoundland every year and there are lessons to be learned from them when we look at the Corrib gas field. Also the way they have dealt with political expenses scandals could be used as an example and deterrent to our politicians.

    All that said, with the recent economic boom cities like St Johns now face a property bubble similar to the one we have just endured, anyone sitting in the new fashionable coffee shops of St Johns will hear conversations about rising prices, investment apartments and “the fundamentals of our boom are different” which would not have been out of place in Dublin 5 years ago.
