Mortgages of this nature were effectively discontinued in Ireland from 2008 onwards, self certification was generally accepted by sub-prime or specialist lenders and it was largely abused, recent changes in regulation call for it to be unacceptable for loan underwriting and we support that move as it was never a sound foundation for lending to begin with.
